We are seeking a Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team working in our Neenah, WI corporate office.
BUILD YOUR ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE AT NERCON
Nercon designs and manufactures conveyor systems that help consumer packaged goods manufacturers operate faster, more reliably, and more efficiently. We are committed to quality, innovation, collaboration, and delivering proven solutions for our customers.
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will gain practical experience across multiple stages of the engineering and manufacturing process. You will work directly with one of our engineering teams and be paired with a team lead who will serve as your mentor throughout the internship.
This is not an internship where you will spend the entire time observing. You will contribute to real customer projects, develop drawings and documentation, support engineering processes, and gain firsthand exposure to how conveyor equipment is designed, manufactured, assembled, and tested.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Working independently or with guidance from experienced project team members, you will:
- Support the mechanical design of packaging, process conveyor, and material-handling systems.
- Create and update two-dimensional and three-dimensional engineering drawings.
- Prepare plan and elevation views, cross sections, and equipment detail drawings.
- Work with Mechanical Project Engineers and other team members to develop conveyor system plans.
- Use SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and DriveWorks to support engineering projects.
- Review project requirements, scope, budgets, and customer specifications with Sales and Application Proposal teams.
- Help verify that designs meet Nercon and customer requirements.
- Prepare review drawing documentation for customer approval.
- Assist in developing mechanical bills of material.
- Support release-to-manufacturing documentation.
- Work with engineering, fabrication, and assembly teams as projects move through production.
- Update engineering library drawings and documentation.
- Participate in product testing, process-improvement projects, prototype development, or project cost and return-on-investment analysis.
- Cross-train in detail engineering to understand how design decisions affect manufacturing and other downstream operations.
GAIN HANDS-ON MANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE
As part of the internship, you will have the opportunity to visit Nercon’s manufacturing facility in Oconto, Wisconsin. During this experience, you may work alongside the assembly team, participate in equipment testing, and see how engineering designs become finished conveyor systems.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Candidates pursuing an associate degree may also be considered based on relevant industry experience.
- Working knowledge of mechanical engineering practices and design concepts.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks 2024 or newer.
- AutoCAD experience is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment layouts, technical procedures, regulations, and engineering documentation.
- Ability to apply problem-solving methods in an engineering environment.
- Ability and willingness to learn new design tools, engineering processes, and ERP systems.
- Ability to communicate technical and design concepts clearly.
- Working knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to contribute effectively within a team-focused work environment.
- A current driver’s license with a driving record that meets Nercon’s requirements.
WHY CONSIDER NERCON?
At Nercon, you will be part of a team that values innovation, collaboration, growth, quality, and proven results. This internship provides exposure to the complete product-development process, from initial customer requirements and engineering design through manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
